Jamung: On ‘Allergic Salute’

~ Solehah : Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah 20/09/10 ~
Attending various appointments & seeing different doctors (specialists) usually gave us (Solehah’s mum & dad) an opportunity to learn something new – the medical terms. On the previous visit (02/09/10) to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah (Otorinolaringology Clinic), we came across what is called an "allergic salute".
Dr. Zulkifli Yusof, the ORL specialist (formerly known as ENT) who attended Solehah that morning told us about it. After examined Solehah’s progress, he briefly (detail enough to understand) explained what the allergic was.
Later that day, Solehah’s dad browsed the internet to get more infomation. In brief, the "allergic salute" is a habit of wiping or rubbing of the nose with a transverse or upward movement of the hand. As a result, it will cause a crease mark on the nose. In other words, the "allergic salute" in a child, is the persistent upward rubbing of the nose that causes a crease mark on the nose.
Taking Solehah to many government hospitals is really a ‘priceless experience’. Bringing up the kids (especially Solehah) is ‘everyday a new knowledge’.
Catatan:
Thanks Dr. Zulkifli Yusof (a government doctor) for his patience to explain & to make two old citizens (with no medical backgrounds) understand what "allergic salute" is & how to overcome it.
