Tahfifah: On 'Knowing'

~ Bangkok : December 2009 ~
A new & strange animal was found in a country. It was given to the king. To avoid people from seeing, the king commanded the animal to be kept in a big dark room - with no light at all. Later, the king named that new animal an elephant.
News spread very fast. People were curious & wanted to know how it look like. So the king invited all the head villagers to the palace. He allowed them to enter the dark room & as commanded, each head was presented to only one part of the elephant - one with a head, another with the ear, the task, the foot, the back, the tail & the tuft of the tail.
After they had done, the king said, "Tell me what an elephant is like." The one who had been presented with the head said, "It is like a pot." The one with the ear said, "No, it is like a fan." The arguments started - the tusk was like a plough pole; the body like the high wall; the back like a mortar; the tail like a rope; and the tuft of the tail a broom. None of the heads had a complete picture of an elephant, the new & strange animal.
Nobody knows everything.
But, knowing what we do not know is part of knowing!!!
Catatan:
Based on our experience attending Solehah's AMC, we realized that nobody knows everything in medical world. Be patience & have the humility to admit that the doctors do not know certain thing as long as they make the initiative to find it out later.
